United Suburban Schools Association names Sandra Park as executive director

New structure designed to provide comprehensive support to suburban school districts

Oklahoma City, Okla., July 21, 2015 – The United Suburban Schools Association (USSA) named Sandra Park as its new executive director. USSA recently elected to more directly support the unique needs of suburban school districts and created the position to oversee professional development of suburban school personnel, advocate on legislative issues specific to its members and provide increased services to suburban districts at the local level.

“We are thrilled that Ms. Park is joining our organization,” said Dr. Jason Simeroth, USSA President and Superintendent of Yukon Public Schools. “With this new role, USSA will be able to provide more personalized service for our members as the organization focuses on current education issues and best practices for successful school districts. It is an exciting time for USSA and the future of our organization.”

With a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in psychometry from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Park has more than 30 years of experience in public education in Oklahoma. She most recently served Oklahoma City Public Schools for seven years as deputy superintendent and interim superintendent, and has also served as the superintendent at Blanchard Public Schools and the assistant Superintendent at Woodward Public Schools. Additionally, she served as a psychometrist supervisor for the State Department of Education focusing on special education needs for 33 school districts. Park is certified as a principal and superintendent, and has completed doctorate course work at the University of Oklahoma.

Among many local and state activities, Park currently serves on the board for ReMerge, and is a member of Leadership Oklahoma, Class VXII, as well as Salt and Light Leadership Training, Class II. She served on the governor’s Special Review Committee on Child Death’s in Oklahoma, as well as the committee that developed “For the People; A Vision for Oklahoma Public Education.”

Formerly under the umbrella of the Cooperative Council of Oklahoma School Administrators (CCOSA) and the Oklahoma State School Board Association (OSSBA), USSA will now move forward independently with no affiliation to other organizations.

“Although we are now a standalone organization, Ms. Park and our membership will continue to work seamlessly with CCOSA, OSSBA and the other members of the Education Coalition to advocate for public education,” said Simeroth. “We are committed to working with these partners on public education issues while providing more comprehensive services specific to suburban Oklahoma districts.”

Ms. Park will begin her tenure Aug. 1, 2015.
